EMDR: let the past lose its grip

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing helps your mind reprocess painful memories, so they stop hijacking the present. Online, with Raquel.

How EMDR fits into our work

EMDR is one of the tools we might use, never a box you have to fit into. Often it sits alongside skills for managing emotions and plenty of honest conversation, and we only use it when you feel ready.

What is EMDR?

Reprocessing, not reliving

When something overwhelming happens, the memory can get “stuck”, still raw and still triggering years later. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, while you briefly bring the memory to mind. This helps your brain file it away properly, so it feels like something that happened, not something that’s still happening.

You don’t have to describe every detail out loud, and you stay in control throughout. EMDR is recommended by the World Health Organization and NICE for post-traumatic stress.

What it can help with

Lighter, calmer, more you

Healing past wounds

Let go of the pain held by past events, big or small.

Quieting your mind

Reduce the anxious thoughts and flashbacks tied to what happened.

Changing old beliefs

Shift from “I’m not good enough” to something kinder and truer.

Finding peace

Feel lighter and more present, less weighed down by the past.

Is EMDR for you?

It might help if you notice

  • Memories that still feel vivid, intrusive or overwhelming
  • Reactions that seem out of proportion and you don’t know why
  • Anxiety or panic linked to something that happened
  • Negative beliefs about yourself that won’t shift with logic alone
  • Feeling stuck after a loss, an accident, an assault or a difficult childhood

Online EMDR

How it works on Zoom

Online, the bilateral stimulation is done by following a moving point on your screen or with gentle self-tapping. Before working on any memory, we make sure you feel safe and have ways to calm yourself if things get intense.
